Social Concerns:
This ministry encompasses what we do as a Parish to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need outside our Parish boundaries.   We strive to live out the Corporal Works of Mercy as Jesus instructed us to do in Matthew 25, 35-46. We do this in many different ways, with different groups of people doing different things. We welcome everyone in the Parish to join us, either in working with existing ministries or bring your passion to the group to see if we should go there. Social Concerns is funded by our Parish tithe and a Parish garage sale we hold every June.

Angel Tree:
We set out trees in the beginning of Advent and ask parishioners to grab an angel, that has a gift request from kids (either from Catholic Charities requests or a foster care agency or El Centro) or adults (from Villa St Francis).

Battered Women's Support
Safe Home and Rose Brooks - assist both of these women's shelters.  Collections vary by need.

CFCA (Christian Fund for Children and Aging):
Parishioners sponsor a child or older person in other countries, usually 3rd world. We provide scholarship to the agency each year.  We also have letter writing weekends, where parishioners write to their sponsored child or adult and we mail the letters to them.

El Centro:
Our ministry to help the Hispanic community. We hold a Christmas Party for families which includes a Posada and gifts for the family. We have served as teachers in the after school program, a training for fathers and are always looking for other ways to serve this group.

Food Collections:
We hold a collection of non perishable food items on the first weekend of the month to stock the food pantry at Catholic Charities in Olathe.  We have special weekends throughout the year that the school children are asked to “stock it (the pantry) to stop it (hunger)”.  We also invite the children of the parish to bring canned goods up to the altar before the Offertory every weekend Mass.  We hold special collections at Thanksgiving (for turkeys) and in the spring.

Garage Sale:
We have a parish garage sale very year in June to help fund our Social Concerns Ministry, Youth Ministry and Catholic Charities.  We ask parishioners to donate and help at this massive sale.

Johnson County Christmas Bureau:
The ministry helps with collections of coats and books, and we stuff diaper bags for a "shop" at Christmas time for needy residents of Johnson County.  This agency allows parents to shop for childrens' gifts.

TLC:
This is a foster care agency and home for troubled youths that we help out with monetary gifts, coat drive, a swimsuit and underwear drive.  We also help provide books to the children.

Undy Sunday:
We take a weekend in August to collect underwear and socks for needy kids and the men of Turnaround, a ministry that serves the population of people who have recently been released from incarceration.

Villa St Francis:
We help out at this Archdiocesan sponsored nursing center a few times a year by providing a clean-up Saturday, where we do chores, both inside and out.  We also look for other oppor-tunities to help as needed.  We also provide monetary support through our Parish’s Faith in Action Fund (our Parish tithe).
